Seed Germination Testing ("Rag-Doll" Test)
Use a firm paper towel such as a brown hand towel or equivalent (the soft, very absorbent paper towels often used in a kitchen make poor rag dolls because they allow roots and shoots to penetrate into the fiber, making seedlings difficult to remove during counting). If no other type of towel is available, the soft towels can be used, but it is best to use a double layer.

Experiment | Overview For our problem, we need to create a test that will determine whether or not Brand A paper towel will absorb more water than Brand B paper towel. Our experiment consisted of measuring water, folding a paper towel, dipping it into water, noting how much water it had absorbed and then repeating the process with the other brand of paper towel.

Absorbent Pad System Don’t let drip spoil your product. Alcan Absorbent Pads comprise of an inert polymer impregnated pad consisting of a non-absorbent plastic material on one side and a non-woven fabric on the other. Each pad features an even dispersal of the absorbent polymer resulting in no bunching of the polymer that can cause abrasion to the outer oxygen barrier bag during processing. Liquids are absorbed into the pad through the non-woven fabric. Unlike many other absorbent products, fluids are retained by the pad and not released under pressure during normal conditions and handling. Micro perforations in the plastic membrane prevent fluids pooling between the meat and the pad. Reduction of fluids in meat packages improves the value of the product to the packer and the end-user. For the packer, the market perception of the meat is improved with the removal of the unsightly fluids in the bag that may also stain the fat and lower the value to the end-user. For the end-user, there is a no mess, better appearance and no fat staining meaning easier handling and better yields. In operation the pads are placed directly onto the surface of the meat away from any fat layer and with the plastic side next to the meat.
