Well water purification with home water filters and purifiers
The best time to sample your well water is when the probability of contamination is greatest. This is likely to be in early spring just after the thaw, after an extended dry spell, following heavy rains or after lengthy periods of non-use. If you use a private laboratory to conduct the testing, nitrate and bacteria samples will typically cost between $10 and $20 to complete. Testing for other contaminants will be more expensive. For example, testing for pesticides or organic chemicals may cost from several hundred to several thousand dollars. The lab will supply you with a clean, sterile sample bottle and the necessary instructions. Samples collected in any other container will not yield meaningful results and will likely not be accepted by the laboratory. In all instances, samples should be refrigerated immediately and transported to the laboratory within 24 hours. Most laboratories mail back the sample results within days or several weeks. If a contaminant is detected, the results will include the concentration of the contaminant and an indication of whether this concentration exceeds a drinking water quality standard.

The Aquasana 4000 Undercounter far exceeds all the stringent NSF testing for standards 42 & 53; State of California Health Department Certified Aquasana 4000 Undercounter #99-1407 as well as IA, WI, CO, etc. For municipally treated water only. The Aquasana water filter system provides filtration to 0.5 microns while leaving in all the healthy, natural trace minerals for great taste. The Aquasana replaceable dual carbon water filter cartridges are easily changed and last from 500-1000 gallons (replace every 6 months). Drinking Water Filter
Drinking water filters are commonly used these days to effectively treat or cleanse drinking water. They help to eliminate the following: Bad Taste, Foul Odors and Chlorine – Contaminants can make water smell and/or taste musty and undesirable. Chlorine can also create cancer-causing compounds, called THM's. Chlorination has also come under scrutiny lately from studies linking the element to health problems like asthma, allergies, heart disease and high cholesterol. Rust or Sediment – Undissolved particles or rust make water cloudy and unappealing. Bacteria and Parasites – Cryptosporidium and Giardia can infiltrate even chlorinated municipal water systems, causing severe illness or possibly even death. In 1993 an outbreak of Giardia in Milwaukee killed between 50 and 100 people and caused more than 100,000 people to became ill. The microscopic egg cysts that caused the breakout can only be removed by ultra-fine filtration systems capable of removing particles down to 1 micron or less. Lead – Exposure to lead can cause serious health effects, especially in children. Documented problems include: (1) Impaired brain and nervous system development in young children; (2) hypertension, nerve disorders and kidney dysfunction in adults; and (3) possible fetal damage in the womb if a pregnant mother is exposed to high lead levels.
